BEST Safaris In Tanzania
Tanzania is well known for having an abundance of wildlife. Few places can match Tanzania’s natural beauty and cultural richness, which includes the Ngorongoro Crater, Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar, and the Serengeti all in one place. A Tanzanian safari offers exceptional game watching in a spectacular backdrop of snowy peaks, volcanic craters, and the Masai steppe of boundless grasslands, from the great migration of the Serengeti to the more distant parks. Along the route of this Great Migration, there are several big cats and vast herds of wildebeest, zebra, and Thompson’s gazelle that cross the grasslands every year. If you feel active or daring, go on a multi-day walking safari in the Serengeti or Ruaha National Parks. Attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak and the world’s highest free-standing mountain. Don’t miss a visit to the exotic spice islands of Zanzibar for an infusion of aromas and architecture in historic Stone Town.

The best time to visit Tanzania is during the Dry season, from late June to October, when wildlife viewing is generally at its best. The wildebeest migration in the Serengeti is usually during June and July. The time to see the wildebeest calving is from January to February. The southern and western circuit parks are best visited during the Dry season (June to October), unlike the more popular northern circuit parks that can be visited year-round.
From snow-capped peaks to ‘Big Five’s safaris and paradise islands, the East African country is basking in its new-found status of being a hot travel destination for both luxurious and adventurous travelers. Here are the best and most beautiful places to visit in Tanzania
Tanzania has a vast spread of accommodation options, ranging from luxurious game lodges in game-filled national parks to heritage buildings in the winding alleys of Stone Town. From sprawling resorts and rustic beach huts lining Zanzibar’s beaches, extending down-budget to a plethora of modest mid-range hotels and cheap, rough-around-the-edges guest houses.
Hotels in Tanzania include superbly finished, expensive luxury hotels with all the trimmings in the cities and popular tourist areas. You can find mid-range generic hotels favored by local business people. Finally, there is the option of cheap board and lodgings in the regional towns, which, although sometimes adequate, have little atmosphere and can have security issues.
include Kiswahili, English, Maasai, and Meru.
Different groups also speak many distinct ethnic languages within Tanzania. The coastal region speaks a different dialect of Kiswahili than the rest of the country. Jakaya Kikwete, the former president of Tanzania, spoke eight different languages. Kiswahili is the language of school instruction and the primary language of education and institutional communication.
English is taught in secondary school and used as a language of instruction in some higher education institutions. Many adults also receive instruction in English through adult education programs.
More recently, Kiswahili became a lingua franca among East African countries. It is the official working language of the African Union and other international organizations.
The Tanzanian Shilling is the official currency of Tanzania. You can use the Tanzanian Shilling for minor expenses like shopping at local markets, restaurants, and supermarkets. The US dollar is used everywhere, especially in tourist areas where merchants prefer dollars over local currency. So make sure you have shillings as well as dollars in your pocket. If bringing cash in US dollars, ensure bank notes are in good condition and not older than 2006. Money can only be exchanged in banks (don’t forget to bring your passport).
Tourism is a big source of income for Tanzania, and a big part of the park fees go towards wildlife conservation. Tanzania’s national parks are the most renowned safari destinations, named UNESCO World Heritage Sites and Natural Wonder of the World. High park fees help to prevent the parks from being overcrowded, harming both flora and fauna.
Here are some example fees (2021):
- Serengeti Park Fee: 70 USD per person per 24 hours (excl. 18% VAT)
- Ngorongoro Crater Service: 300 USD per vehicle
- Camping Fee: 71 USD per person to overnight in one of the national parks
All visitors to Tanzania require a return or onward ticket and a valid passport with an entry or re-entry visa duly endorsed. Visas are not required for visitors from some member countries of the Commonwealth and other specified countries. Visas can be applied online or obtained from any Tanzania Diplomatic Mission or Consulate abroad and at main entry points, including international airports, sea ports, and border posts.
