6 Days Tanzania Safari Itinerary

Day 1

Manyara national Park

You will be picked up from your hotel in Arusha between 8:00 am and 8:30 am. We are heading to Lake Manyara for your first game drive in Tanzania. Lunch on arrival. Lake Manyara National Park is one of the small parks in Tanzania- no more than 320 km. The beautiful nature, varied flora, and exciting fauna make Lake Manyara an obvious place to spend a day or so on the way to Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Lake Manyara is located at the bottom of the Great Rift Valley, which stretches from Jordan to Mozambique, and has an intriguing ecology and a strong variety of birdlife, it is perfect for bird watching, 380 species have been recorded, and there are periods when thousands of flamingos settled here, forming a pink ribbon along the lake. The park is best known for the lions, who have a habit of climbing trees. There is a good chance of spotting elephants (Lake Manyara had the highest concentration in Africa, but illegal poaching has reduced the number of animals.) You will also find hippos, buffalos, giraffes, zebras, gazelles, and lots of baboons.

Day 2

Serengeti National Park

Today’s drive takes you to the famous Serengeti National Park, home of the great wildebeest migration. This exciting drive up the highlands provides a spectacular Birdseye view of the Ngorongoro Crater. As you crest the hillside, as far as the eyes can see, the vast expanse of the 6,900sq miles (18,000 sq km) Serengeti is spread out before you. Serengeti, defined as “endless plains” in Kiswahili, is inhabited by more than two million large mammals including more than a million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of plains zebra, and Thomson’s gazelle. Large predators including lions, cheetahs, and hyenas are drawn to the area by the abundance of prey that migrates throughout the park. Smaller animals like rock hyrax, bat-eared fox, mongoose, honey badger, jackal, monkey, baboon, and African hare, with nearly 500 species of bird, also inhabit the area.
